Michiel Rienstra

Cardiologist

Prof.dr. Michiel Rienstra studied medicine in Antwerp, Belgium, was trained as cardiologist in the University Medical Center Groningen. He obtained his PhD in 2007 and his master in health administration in 2022. Michiel combines work as clinician and researcher. His researchgroup consists of clinical patient-oriented research and epidemiologic, genetic and AI-informed research in the field of atrial fibrillation and heart failure. He leads and is involved in many investigator-initiated clinical studies (e.g. RACE trials, CONVERT, DECISION, MARC studies, VIP studies), national and international consortia and networks (e.g. CVON-RED-CVD, CVON-RACE V, EmbRACE, MyDigiTwin, AFGen, AF SCREEN, Afib.no). He is also involved, in many different roles, in phase II to IV atrial fibrillation studies operated via G-Cure.
